Rape for Profit

This month, the documentary Rape for Profit hit Bellevue, Washington’s Lincoln Square movie theaters for the first time. Yet, as locals gathered to watch the feature-length documentary, entertainment was not the first thing on their minds. Neither was the popcorn or soda. With its “gritty look at Seattle’s growing problem of human trafficking,” Rape for Profit isn’t exactly the kind of film to watch for warm fuzzy feelings. All the same, it’s a film worth watching. Here’s why.

Featuring unique footage of Seattle’s High-Risk and Street Crime units hard at work, writer-director Jason Pamer and Eric Esau do more than present viewers with a bunch of statistics about child trafficking. Instead, they take viewers to the actual streets where they can witness “Seattle’s daughters, nieces, and friends” working as tricks, child prostitutes, and most importantly, sex-slaves. In so doing, they put a face on human trafficking, personalizing the problem in a way that actually hits home.

In addition to addressing the problem of prostitution, Rape for Profit also explores the less-known or less-recognized side of trafficking—pornography. While the connection between pornography and sex-trafficking is often overlooked, Rape for Profit sees it for what it is—the “dress rehearsal” of prostitution. When it comes down to it, men who demand more porn essentially demand more prostitution.

In a society where “boys will be boys at the expense of girls,” Pamer and Esau’s film sounds the call for men to rise up and stand against the oppression of women5. WAR, Int’l is excited to promote their film and stand behind such a brave endeavor.

Rape For Profit

This documentary illuminates and explores the reality of sex trafficking and its root causes by following the stories of the victims, those who victimize and the ones trying to combat it. Set in Seattle, the #3 city for this activity in the country, the viewer gets a front row seat to the action as it is happening on the streets. Touching on controversial themes such as prostitution, lust and power, ‘Rape For Profit’ brings a new perspective to this modern day slavery.

From Executive Producer Jada Pinkett Smith comes “Rape For Profit”, the groundbreaking documentary that The Huffington Post calls “Disturbing and Provocative”. Set beneath the cold Seattle skyline, Rape For Profit reveals the horrific realities of the prostituted girls that roam the streets and of the men who hunt them. In a city where the average age of entry into the sex trade is 13, who is really to blame? Is it the girls? The pimps who put them there? Or the men who buy them?

About Rape For Profit

Typically known for coffeehouses and cloud cover, Seattle has also gained another title: 3rd most prostituted children in the nation. Experts estimate that there are up to 300,000 underage girls sexually trafficked nationally every year. These girls (many as young as 12 and 13 years old) are bought and sold for the pleasure of men all over the country. This isn’t just happening in 3rd world countries, it’s happening right here in our own backyards. It has been said that prostitution and rape are two sides of the same coin. None of these little girls want to be out in the freezing cold night after night to get into cars with strange men; they are trapped inside a system of coercion and fear that gives them no hope for a normal childhood – much less a healthy future.

This feature-length documentary from Mew Films is the product of hundreds of hours of ridealong footage with Sea-Tac street crimes unit and the Seattle high-risk victims unit, including undercover sting operations and interviews with some of Seattle’s leading politicians and leaders. This powerful film hopes to shed light on this growing problem and uncover the solution to the atrocities happening to Seattle’s daughters, nieces, and friends. Rape For Profit partners with local law enforcement, teen shelters, and non-profit organizations to help educate the city of Seattle on what is going on right in front of them.

Don't Sell Bodies

It’s hard to believe, but more humans are being used as slaves than ever before. Between 700,000 and 4 million women and children will be trafficked this year, with the majority being forced to work in the sex trade. In America, there are an estimated 40,000 men, women and children enslaved at this very moment. If everyone who cares takes action, we can end slavery once and for all. It’s time. Founded by Jada Pinkett Smith “Don’t Sell Bodies” exists to raise awareness and promote action for the abolition of modern-day slavery in America. For more information, visit their website.
