2014 Mid Term Elections

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) Blocks Barack’s Choice For Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy. Over Gun Violence “being a public health issue” Remark.

By Jueseppi B.

First, let’s get something straight: gun violence in America is a public health issue.

What else would you call it when gun deaths are set to surpass car accidents in 2015 as the leading cause of death of young people?

But Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) doesn’t see it that way — so much so that he’s trying to block President Obama’s nominee for Surgeon General, Vivek Murthy, because Dr. Murthy leads a group that says pediatricians should be able to ask parents about guns in the home — just as they ask about child car seats, swimming pools and smoking.

Sen. Paul calls that view “an attack on Americans’ right to own a firearm.”

Dr. Murthy’s confirmation vote could come any day now, and we urgently need your help to overcome Sen. Paul’s NRA-backed antics. Can you tell your senators that Dr. Murthy’s confirmation will help more Americans protect their children from harm?

Send a message to your senators: Listen to your constituents, not the NRA! Confirm Dr. Murthy as Surgeon General.

First — do no harm.

That’s the most basic oath a doctor swears to his profession and to his patients. And someone ought to remind Doctor — now Senator — Paul of that promise.

The leading organizations for medical professionals, including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, have made it clear that they consider guns a public health issue. And I’d take their word any day over the NRA’s.

But that hasn’t stopped the NRA and its allies from trying to pass laws at the state and federal level that actually make it illegal for doctors to talk to their patients about gun safety. These gag orders do nothing to promote public safety — they just put our families at risk.

As a doctor, Sen. Paul should prioritize his constituents’ safety above handing out favors to the Washington gun lobby. We need a Surgeon General who looks at data and listens to the experts — not the NRA.

Send a message to your senators now and ask for a speedy confirmation for Dr. Murthy:

Thanks for taking a stand with us. Let’s make sure common sense prevails over these cynical gun lobby tactics.

P.S. In case you’re wondering, this isn’t a Republican or Democratic issue. Ronald Reagan’s Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, wrote an important article arguing that gun violence is a public health issue back in 1992. Make sure your senators know how important this is.

Sen Rand Paul Trying To Block Surgeon General Nomination

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is not happy with the president’s choice for surgeon general and trying to block it.

Paul said “every other word that comes out of [Murthy’s] mouth or through his tweets is something condemning gun owners, condemning the NRA.”

Sounds as if Dr. Murthy has a good common sense grip on reality. Too bad dumbass Rand Paul lives in his father’s land of dumbfuckery.

In a letter to Reid on Tuesday, Paul said he has “serious concerns about Dr. Murthy’s ability to impartially serve as “the Nation’s Doctor.”

Murthy is the co-founder of Doctors for America, which grew out of the campaign organization Doctors for Obama. Paul says his experience in political advocacy should disqualify him, as should his record of advocating stricter gun control laws and promoting ObamaCare.

“Historically, the Surgeon General of the United States has been a position with the purpose of educating Americans so that they may lead healthier lives, rather than advancing a political agenda,” Paul wrote. “Dr. Murthy has disqualified himself from being Surgeon General because of his intent to use that position to launch an attack on Americans’ right to own a firearm under the guise of a public health and safety campaign.”

When will Americans educate themselves that the 2nd amendment was written in the 1800 in regards to flintlock pistols and black powder muskets by a group of delusional racist elderly caucasian dumbasses? The 2nd amendment was written to allow slave owners to arm themselves against slave uprisings, not a well armed militia against government. One more thing, if the 2nd amendment of the U.S. Constitution should be honored, so should the section that makes abortions legal. Just sayin.

Paul is placing what’s known as a hold on the nomination, a courtesy afforded to senators allowing them to voice their opposition. But Reid could technically still move forward, and a Reid spokesman suggested the majority leader would not sit on Murthy’s nomination simply over Paul’s objections.

“This is just one of the many ways Republicans exploit routine matters to impose gridlock on the Senate,” he said in a statement. New Senate rules approved by Democrats could also make it easier to push through nominations like Murthy’s.

According to Paul, the organization also has close ties to Obama’s political organization, Organizing for America. Paul says he has questions that need to be addressed over who is funding groups like Murthy’s.

Since when does/has a President of The United States choose cabinet members he dislikes and can’t work with because said nominee has a different agenda than the appointing POTUSA?

“It is clear that more transparency is needed from a group whose influence frequently impacts appointments in the Obama administration,” Paul said.

Paul also voiced concerns over Murthy’s position on gun violence, noting Doctors for America asserts that gun violence should be considered a public health epidemic on par with heart disease and has pushed for gun control legislation to be passed.

White House spokesman Eric Schultz defended the nominee as a “dynamic, entrepreneurial practitioner who has dedicated a lot of time, energy, and passion to health and wellness.”

He added: “As Surgeon General he will be a powerful messenger on these issues and each of the tenets of health: nutrition, activity, and resilience.”

The more Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) opens his mouth and speaks, the more stupid he becomes.

Who do YOU trust……Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)

Boston’s Dr. Vivek Hallegere Murthy…
