Slow Heart

thefeatheredsleep

I have a slow heart

A slow soul

A slow mind

Mired in a thick stream

Running down river

I can only follow

Learning my sums awkwardly

I’ve thick fingers

Writing my words out neatly on banana leaves

Spelling slipping deeper

Remember, remember to bring something to keep afloat

When your head dips below

I’m not loving easy

Count people I’ve loved on 2 hands

would take me too long

They’d find someone else

love if it comes at all

is too slow and too permanent

once I do I never stop

getting me there is a rattling against normalcy

metaphor for my recalcent soul

You’re a luminescent girl of smiles

I’m the heavy earth to your bright sky

Wading in heavy indigo deep
