Donald Trumps’s travel ban reeks of religious bias: Judge

Written by: Vicky Nanjappa

As a result, travellers from six Muslim-majority countries — Iran, Libya, Somalina, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — will be able to travel to the US.

Donald Trump’s comments suggest religious bias, a judge had said while lifting the travel ban. A federal judge in Hawaii on Thursday blocked United States president Donald Trump’s new travel ban. The order came up hours before the ban was set to go into effect.

The judge observed in his 43-page order that the illogic of the government’s contentions is palpable. “The notion that one can anyone can demonstrate animus towards any group of people only targetting them all at once is fundamentally flawed,” the judge observed.

“Any reasonable, objective observer would conclude, as does the court for purposes of the instant Motion for Temporary Restraining Order, that the stated secular purpose of the Executive Order is, at the very least, ‘secondary to a religious objective’ of temporarily suspending the entry of Muslims,” the judge observed. As a result of this ruling which is applicable in the entire nation travellers from six Muslim-majority countries — Iran, Libya, Somalina, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — will be able to travel to the US.

A federal judge in Hawaii has blocked US president Donald Trump’s new travel ban. The order came up hours before the ban was set to go into effect. The judge in the 43-page ruling said that in no uncertain terms can the new executive order failed to pass legal muster at this stage and the state had established “a strong likelihood of success” on their claims of religious discrimination, CNN reported.

Trump was quick to react and called it bad and sad news. The order he blocked was a watered down version of the first one, Trump also said.

As a result of this ruling which is applicable in the entire nation travellers from six Muslim-majority countries — Iran, Libya, Somalina, Sudan, Syria and Yemen who will be able to travel to the US.
