Usain Bolt Statue Erected In Time For Independence Celebrations

The statue commissioned by the government to honour track and field legend, Usain Bolt, is expected to be completed in time for the country’s 55th Independence celebrations in August.

That’s the word from Sports Minister Olivia Grange, who says the eight-foot sculpture will be mounted in the Statue Park at the National Stadium in Kingston.

The statue is being designed and created by renowned Jamaican sculptor Basil Watson.

Grange says the statue will serve as a lasting tribute to the global sprint star, whose world record breaking performances in the 100 and 200-metre sprints have left the world in awe.

Bolt has announced that he plans to retire after the World Championships in  London later this year and Grange says the unveiling of the statue will coincide with his departure from international competition.
