Prescriptions for opioids such as percocet, vicodin have jumped 300 percent in the last decade, and although they are the most commonly prescribed drugs on the market, they are also the most dangerous and addictive drugs, killing thousands of people every year. As patients build up a tolerance, opioids lose their effectiveness with long-term use, which encourages their overuse.
So when a plant comes along that can effectively curb pain without creating a dependency on these popular selling medications, pharmaceutical companies get very get angry. And marijuana does just that.
