Full Moon Riding

Christina Strigas

I feel the full moon

creep up

and wink at me

as if it holds secrets

to the commoner

who goes to work

and does not look up

at its reflection

5:42 it will be there

our time

don’t snap a picture

keep it to yourself

it’s your whisper to keep.

I know most of you

will be busy

driving in traffic

picking up your kids

racing home to cook supper

taking out the trash

unaware and uninvited to this gala.

Who cares? you say

But I do, of course

and that man I met in another life.

and maybe that woman you loved

and can’t get out of your mind

and maybe that man I let touch

my panties in the middle of the day.

So many ands, buts, and ifs,

to contemplate at the traffic light.

Everyone hopes this poem is about them

but don’t be silly
