HuffPost Politics: Trump’s week of chaos
President Donald Trump’s already chaotic week got even more messy Tuesday night when the New York Times dropped a bombshell report alleging that the president asked former FBI Director James Comey to drop his agency’s investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The Times report, based on a detailed memo reportedly authored by Comey, sent shockwaves through Washington, and some lawmakers raised concerns over whether Trump’s alleged request could be considered obstruction of justice. Among them was Republican Sen. John McCain.
“We’ve seen this movie before. It’s reaching Watergate size and scale,” he said.
Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said he had requested the memo and other details about Comey’s discussions with Trump from the FBI, and is ready to issue subpoenas if necessary.
Meanwhile, pundits are now starting to take seriously the possibility that Trump could be removed from office.
