Sandbox Games (1987: Age 16)

Games of the Sandbox (1987: Age 16)

March 17, 1987

Will you come out
and play today?
We play in the sandbox.

The games grow hard for
one or two alone,
the numbers grow large
the rules mold and change.
Will you take us and explain
all these rules
all these changes.
They threaten our simple
Games of the Sandbox.

Will you come out
and play today?
We play as sand flows
from the sandbox.

We need you,
We need all of you
to help us along.
The games grow hard for
one or two alone.
The sand flows out
leaves us without our castles-
threatens our simple
Games of the Sandbox

And a fun blog about the history of the sandbox where I found the picture: http://www.play-scapes.com/play-history/pre-1900/a-brief-history-of-the-sandbox/

Over the next few weeks I will be spending time with my 16-17 year old self from 1987. In no particular order, these poems will be presented in the final form I found them on computer discs discovered in an attic many years ago. This will culminate in the next entry of my Into My Own, My Story as a Writer series found here:
