This Caribbean Nation Just Made a Move To Ban Plastic Bags

If you’re planning on visiting the Bahamas in the future, you might want to pack an extra tote.

After meeting with the youth delegation of the Bahamas Plastic Movement, the country’s Minister of Environment and Housing has announced a plan to completely ban the use of plastic bags.

That’s a big win for the Bahamas Plastic Movement, which you might remember is an organization helmed by Coastal Living’s 2017 Ocean Hero Krystal Ambrose.

Ambrose, an environmental scientist and islander, founded the movement in 2014 with the goal of reducing the amount of plastic that currently inundates the Bahamian shores and seas. Plastic pollution is a particular environmental issue in the Bahamas, a country which imports 90 percent of its goods, much of it in plastic, according to Ambrose.
