In front of him, the coast and water had disappeared, replaced by forest trees, and darkening skies. No longer did the light betray his vision. What he saw before him was no illusion.

She transformed before his eyes. A maiden with long locks, feathered, like wings, but her wings were gone. The owl was confused a bit, not really knowing what it was he was experiencing. Trying not to stare, as her feathers became a cloak, now draped across her shoulders, she was more human than owl. Except for her eyes. They pierced through him, never blinking.

He tried to back away, more and more, as she became less and less an owl. Standing before…
