“Slavery Is A Choice” Kanye West FULL Interview on TMZ Live
Trevor Noah cuts Kanye West down to size over ‘slavery was a choice’ remark
From USA Today…..
Before the last one had a chance to simmer down, Kanye West caused another stir, calling slavery a “choice” in an interview Tuesday.
So 400 years of slavery sounds like a choice to Kanye West?
During West’s TMZ Live conversation on Tuesday, he’d told interviewers Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years? For 400 years, that sounds like a choice … like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all?! It’s like we’re mentally in prison.”
The biracial Noah, who detailed his childhood under apartheid in South Africa in Born a Crime, set it straight: “Going blond is a choice. Both are terrible but one is easier to undo,” Noah pointed out. “Although when I think about it, slavery was a choice — for white people. White people were like, ‘Hey, should we keep doing things ourselves or make other people do it for us? Hmm …. Yeah, other people. That sounds good.’ “
Noah also showed the clip of TMZ producer Van Lathan calling West out during his interview.
“While you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives,” Lathan told him during TMZ Live. “We have to deal with the marginalization that has come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a ‘choice.’ Frankly, I’m disappointed. I’m appalled. And, brother, I’m unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something, to me, that’s not real.”
Noah added, “That was powerful. Really, really powerful. And you know there was one scared white person in that office who was like, ‘Hello, police?’ There’s two black people arguing in the office right now.”
Noah continued, “Normally, I would care what Kanye West says about slavery or black history. But what does suck is that now every member of the tiki torch club out there is going to use Kanye’s words to justify their hate. Basically, the way Kanye samples old-school soul music is how racists are going to sample him now.”
He concluded, “Kanye may think he’s just being a free thinker but the truth is, there’s nothing good coming out of this. Except maybe an idea for a new movie.”
Cut to Daily Show correspondent Roy Wood Jr. starring in Seven Years a (Voluntary) Slave in which he crows, “Being a slave was the best choice I ever made. I get to work and have fun in the sun!”
Thank you USA Today.
I’m not about to waste time on kanye west and his obvious ignorance when it comes to slavery and the ramifications of a nation and a society that supports the oppression/enslavement of anything, human or otherwise. I believe his stupidity speaks for itself just as Mr. west is speaking for himself when he utters dumbfuckery such as this.
I posted this image that I am sharing with you right here…..
On Twitter, calling Mr. west a house nigger, and immediately was suspended for 7 days for expressing my opinion, just as Mr. west expressed his opinion on slavery. The difference is/was my opinion was classified as hate speech by Twitter while Mr. west’s opinion that slavery is/was a choice, was classified as freedom of speech.
